Training
The Civic
Participation Network project aims to remove barriers to
active citizenship for people with communication support needs.
Inclusive training for active
citizenship
A major barrier to active citizenship is
inaccessible training and capacity building events.
Trainers may offer the services of a British Sign Language interpreter and may have information available in large font. But information and the events themselves are often less accessible to those with more diverse communication support needs.

During 2007-2008 we piloted a course on how to
influence decision-makers in Scotland. |
Participants all
required support to access information and express their
views.
The pilot brought together trainers experienced in capacity
building and trainers experienced in communication support.
The aim was to share skills.

Inclusive Communication Trainers
group
The sharing of skills between trainers in Stage 1 proved successful. As a result of the
pilot we have established the Inclusive Communication Trainers
group to:
- learn from each other
- promote more communication accessible training
- develop relevant training support
materials.
If you are a trainer and you would like to join contact
