'My name is Campbell Lauder. I sometimes go by the name of Cate Lauder because I am also a cross dresser and I've also got a stammer .

'Just now it's Cate cause I'm dressed like this. I'm involved with the British Stammering Association and have just been elected to the committee of the Edinburgh group but it still does create the odd barrier.  It's not easy at work having a stammer.  A lot of folk think you are an idiot if you have a stammer.

'I'm a qualified scriptwriter and have written a few short films that have been made. and I've recently moved into writing some stage stuff as well.  I've recently been having some success with my writing.  Not much so far but enough to make me know I can do it and make me keep at it because I've been writing about being a cross dresser and being a stammerer and since then it's taken off.

'I'm a member of the British Stammering Association and also on the committee for the Edinburgh group. I'm also with a small organisation called Polygender Scotland which deals with transgender and intersex issues.

'I've also been involved mostly through the ...because I'm a cross dresser...been involved with a new Bill that is going to make amendments to the Hate Crimes Bill.

'If someone finishes sentences for you, or if someone says "slow down" .... it does hurt, but if I've got enough patience and decency to listen to you (especially if I didn't want to) you should do the same with me.  And I just think anyone should be able to say what they want.

'My stammering .. It took me till about 30 (I'm 32 now) to come to terms with actually having it. I actually came to terms with being a cross dresser long before I came to terms with being a stammerer believe it or not.

'Well actually one day there I was phoning up to cancel an appointment with somebody. And when I phoned up I was stammering and the receptionist started mocking it and laughing at it. So as soon as she passed me over to the person who I wanted to speak to, and said what I had to say, I then said "Could you please tell the receptionist not to mock my stammer".'
